Europa

Austria
I landed in Vienna Airport on an early Sunday morning in October. Tommi was waiting for me and I was just happy and the fact that I flew a full day almost disappeared (hehehe). That first day, until the third one, I mostly am jetlagged and napped at weird times all day.

Vienna is lovely with its graceful old buildings laden with history and scattered parks around the city, the people looking seemingly distant and serious, the smell of damp leaves on the ground firmly marking autumn's presence. My days there will fondly be remembered as lazy mornings, light chores, secret lunchtime rendezvous at the Karlsplatz; the afternoons full of walking either to enjoy the cobblestoned paths of the inner city while figuring out different landmarks, enjoying coffee or a book at a park, or doing a bit of shopping.

My side events involve seeing a lot of the Alps and hiking it, going to his hometown, meeting various family and friends (mine too, I met up with people I haven't seen for years...), and watching an opera in German!

The following items that I find during my stay there and rated 5-star: bread, bread, bread! chocolates, Manner waffles, Haalstadt village, Innsbruck and Salzburg city.

Room for improvement: prices for dining out, non-smiling citizens (Aussies totally RULE on this issue), dead Sundays (nothing is open, even groceries!), him working 11 hour days daily.

Italy
During a long weekend we drove down to Venice in Italy for 6 hours without the radio/music, and back again. We had forgotten the radio so you can imagine it's mostly sleepy me alternating with singing me and unfunny jokes me trying to entertain both of us. I think this is the hardest test on the relationship so far :o)

After being there I have to admit that Italians know what they are doing when it comes to designs, details, sculptures. I can't help the ooh and aahs inside me whenever I move on between exhibits or museums or palaces...As for the city itself, I think it's unique but too touristy to be my favorite.

Five-stars: navigation practice, feeling of living on water.
Room for improvement: prices in general, weather.

Conclusion
I still love Europe after a chance to look at it up close and personal again. My three weeks off was definitely worth asking for, and mark my words that I will never go to Europe on an organized tour-I think it's a serious crime!

Comments:
